Thinking about listing your home on the Havasu real estate market? A kitchen cabinet makeover adds value to your property. And creating a home office appeals to many of today’s buyers. But, if your property stinks, you run the risk of sending your buyers running out of the house gasping for clean air. So, eliminate bad smells before you sell your real estate in Lake Havasu.
How to Eliminate Bad Smells
In the Kitchen
Trash cans are one of the biggest culprits of foul odors in the kitchen. Empty your trash daily while your house is listed on the Havasu real estate market. But, before you list, take the can itself out and wash it thoroughly with warm soap and water. Sometimes, smelly liquids dry on the inside of the can, creating a nasty stench. Always spray with a disinfecting, deodorizing spray (like Lysol) before you place a new bag inside.
Eliminate bad smells in the fridge by disposing of old leftovers and expired foods weekly. Then, place a fresh, open box of baking soda inside to absorb odors. Make sure to securely fasten a lid on all leftovers in your refrigerator as well.
Clean out your microwave with a fresh-smelling natural cleanser like lemon water. Simply cut a lemon in half and squeeze its juice into a microwaveable dish. Add a half a cup of water and place inside the microwave. Run the microwave on high for three minutes. Then, let the dish sit inside the microwave for five minutes to allow the lemon water to steep. Wipe down the inside of the microwave with a clean washcloth.
Dishwashers and garbage disposals must also be cleaned regularly to eliminate bad smells in your real estate in Lake Havasu. Commercially made cleaners for both can be found at your local grocery or home improvement store. But, for a natural alternative, cut lemons up into smaller pieces and run them through the garbage disposal. For the dishwasher, use white vinegar. Put the vinegar in a dishwasher-safe container. Then, place the container on the top rack of your dishwasher. Run a complete cycle with hot water. For lingering smells, sprinkle a cup of baking soda along the bottom of your dishwasher before running a second hot water cycle.
In the Bathroom
The biggest culprit for foul odors in the bathroom is the toilet. A regular cleaning (at least a couple times a week) helps lessen the chance of staining. If it still stinks in the bathroom of your real estate in Lake Havasu, add a half cup of bleach to the water after you clean.
In the Bedroom
Sometimes, your mattress may give off a foul stench. Sprinkle baking soda on it, let it sit for a few minutes, then vacuum it up. A quick spritz of Febreze eliminates bad smells in a pinch as well. Leave closet doors open to avoid trapping odors inside. Store your gym clothes in the garage until you have a chance to wash them. Sprinkle a tablespoon of baking soda inside your gym shoes to keep them fresh and clean.
In the Living Room/Family Room
Carpets love stinky smells, especially if your real estate in Lake Havasu includes pets and/or smokers. A box of baking soda works wonders when sprinkled on top and left for 15 to 20 minutes. Then, vacuum it up. Do the same for pet beds. If smells are too strong for baking soda to remove, go to your local home improvement store and pick up some Gonzo Natural Magic Odor Eliminator. Activate this natural volcanic rock out in direct sunlight. Then, place the rocks in a dish and set where the odors are the worst. It absorbs all smells in the area, leaving absolutely no trace of a foul smell anywhere.
